UP Govt all prepared to tackle 3rd COVID-19 wave, if it comes

Amid the spectre of probable third COVID-19 wave, Uttar Pradesh Government has made all the arrangements beforehand to combat the situation. It is sparing no efforts to expand all the healthcare facilities for children and making arrangements including pediatric ICUs and isolation beds in every medical college and district hospital.

In view of the probable 3rd wave, over 6600 PICUs and isolation beds have been set up in the state. Also, over 56,000 isolation beds and 18,000 ICUs have been established in the district hospitals of Uttar Pradesh.

While addressing a high-level meeting on Tuesday, CM Yogi asked the department to expedite the work of establishing PICUs in every medical college and district hospitals. He said, “It should be ensured that there is no shortage of beds to treat children in any situation.”

He also asked the health officials to ensure there should be no shortage of medical equipment in medical colleges and health department hospitals. The state is having an adequate availability of all the necessary equipment including BiPAP machine, Pediatric ICUs and mobile X-ray machine.

Adopting a multifaceted approach to contain the spread of a probable third wave, the state government has urged people to stay cautious and not let the guard down by getting vaccination as soon as possible and adopt the mantra of SMS i.e. Social distancing, wearing masks, using sanitisers.

Training To Doctors, Paramedical Staff

The Government is also conducting training sessions for doctors and paramedical staff for preparing them to fight the pandemic’s possible third wave. Over 5000 doctors are getting special training and a programme of providing skill training is being conducted, under which, more than 8700 paramedical staff, nurses, and technicians are being trained.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.

During the 4th and 6th of April two deaths were reported in Bengaluru, one in Gadag district on April 8, two deaths were reported from Belagavi and Vijayapura on April 30. The first Covid case was reported in the state in March 2020 and three Covid deaths were recorded in the month.
