Good News! For the first time since Covid-19 made its presence, no building sealed in Mumbai

For the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began, no building or floor in any building was sealed in Mumbai as on Tuesday.

The last building in the city was sealed in M-East Ward (Deonar, Govandi and Mankhurd), which was also released on Monday, according to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Covid dashboard.

As per the BMC guidelines, an entire building will be sealed only if at least 10 Covid cases are detected in various flats in a small building or more than 20 per cent of the occupied flats have patients in a large society.

Till now, more than 66,000 buildings or floors have been sealed and eventually released.

Meanwhile, BMC plans to lift all restrictions in the coming months with unlocking beginning in phases by February-end. Other than the downward trend of new infections, the vaccination percentage in the city has reached 94, according to a report published by the Hindustan Times.

Covid-19 cases in Mumbai:

Mumbai reported 447 fresh Covid-19 cases and one death on Tuesday. The city recorded less than 500 Covid-19 for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. As on Monday, Mumbai logged 356 Covid cases.

Maharashtra, on the other hand, recorded 6,107 new coronavirus cases, 329 less than the day ago, and 57 fresh deaths linked to the infection, while 16,035 more patients recovered from the disease, according to the state health department data.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
