Lucknow: Hundreds of students, worked up owing to the paper leak of the Uttar Pradesh PCS exams last week, on Wednesday indulged in violence and set ablaze a city transport bus in Allahabad, police said.

Violence broke out after hundreds of PCS aspirants gathered in front of the Public Service Commission office and began a protest.

The sit-in soon turned violent and the agitating students started pelting stones at the building, passersby and a police contingent deployed outside the PCS office. They also set on fire a transport bus.

Police resorted to a cane charge to control the irate mob and fired rubber bullets to disperse the unruly crowd.

An official told IANS that the situation was soon brought under control and heavy security deployment put in place to avoid any recurrence of the violence.

The question paper of the Uttar Pradesh Provincial Civil Services (PCS) test was leaked on March 29 on the messaging service Whatsapp just prior to the start of the examination.

Lakhs of civil service aspirants were left in the lurch following the paper leak.

While the preliminary examination is now scheduled for April 10, the students have approached the Allahabad High Court seeking cancellation of the examination.

Around 4.5 lakh candidates appeared at 917 centres across the state, including 70,000 candidates who took the test at 148 centres in Lucknow.

The opposition parties, including the BJP, have accused top political leaders of the ruling party of being hand in glove with the people who leaked the paper.

Vijay Bahadur Pathak, state spokesman of the BJP, told IANS that connivance of the high and mighty cannot be ruled out in the leak.

“There is lurking suspicion… the entire thing unravelled, then the denial and attempts to cover up by the Akhilesh Yadav government,” he added.

Lakhs of students appearing for the examination have taken to the streets since then and have been accusing the Akhilesh Yadav government for the paper leak, which could jeopardise their careers.

The court, generally, considers a person who commit a crime and the one who destroys the evidence, as criminals in the eyes of law. But what if an animal destroys the evidence of a crime committed by a human.

In a peculiar incident in Rajasthan, a monkey fled away with the evidence collected by the police in a murder case. The stolen evidence included the murder weapon (a blood-stained knife).

The incident came to light when the police appeared before the court and they had to provide the evidence in the hearing.

The hearing was about the crime which took place in September 2016, in which a person named Shashikant Sharma died at a primary health center under Chandwaji police station. After the body was found, the deceased’s relatives blocked the Jaipur-Delhi highway, demanding an inquiry into the matter.

Following the investigation, the police had arrested Rahul Kandera and Mohanlal Kandera, residents of Chandwaji in relation to the murder. But, when the time came to produce the evidence related to the case, it was found that the police had no evidence with them because a monkey had stolen it from them.

In the court, the police said that the knife, which was the primary evidence, was also taken by the monkey. The cops informed that the evidence of the case was kept in a bag, which was being taken to the court.

The evidence bag contained the knife and 15 other important evidences. However, due to the lack of space in the malkhana, a bag full of evidence was kept under a tree, which led to the incident.
