Ramos not leaving Real Madrid: Coach Benitez
Melbourne: Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez on Friday insisted senior defender Sergio Ramos is not leaving the club this season.
Ramos has been subject of persistent transfer speculations in the ongoing transfer season with reports linking him to a move to English giants Manchester United.
But Benitez reiterated that Real will not be selling the 29-year-old Spain international and have made him a part of the pre-season training tour, currently underway in Australia.
“There is a lot of talk about his (Ramos’) situation. For me he is an enormous professional. He applies himself and does everything that the team and I ask,” Benitez was quoted as saying by goal.com.
“The president (Florentino Perez) has already commented that he is staying with the club.”
Benitez, who was brought in to replace Italian Carlo Ancelotti after Real went trophyless last year, also said Ramos is an integral part of his team’s set up for the new season.
“I have spoken to him at length in the summer about his ideas and his future,” Benitez said.
“I see Sergio as an integral part of our team. He is a winner and that is what we need in our team.”

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia
The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.
Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.
Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
