Sao Paulo coach Osorio reveals World Cup wish

Rio De Janeiro: Sao Paulo coach Juan Carlos Osorio has expressed his desire to take charge of a national team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

But the 53-year-old Colombian said his immediate focus was on securing a top-four finish with the Brazilian outfit, a news agency reported.

“My aim is to coach until the age of 60. I want to be part of a World Cup. I have had offers from national teams. Unfortunately none have been from my country,” he said, adding “I also know that I will never coach Brazil”.

“I have my feet on the ground. There are two or three national teams that I think would be a good fit. If and when an opportunity occurs I will certainly consider it. For the time being, I’m focused on my job with Sao Paulo.”

Osorio joined Sao Paulo in May from Colombian top-flight side Atletico Nacional, who he led to 69 wins from 119 matches.

He has also had spells in charge of Millonarios, Chicago Fire, New York Red Bulls, Once Caldas, Puebla and the Honduras national team.

In addition, Osorio spent four years as an assistant coach under Kevin Keegan at Manchester City.

Sao Paulo are currently fifth in Brazil’s Serie A standings with 11 matches remaining in the season.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
