In the name of mother: Anupamaa’s new collection
New Delhi: Designer Anupama Dayal has dedicated her spring-summer collection to her mother Manjula, who is suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
Titled ‘Manjula’, the collection consisted of pieces like off shoulder dress in red silk, high waisted kaftan in red handprinted in stripes, fluid long dress in satin and aqua shirt dress in stripes that were all named according to the designer’s mother’s likes and dislikes. So, some of them were called sindoor or sangeet or kahani or sunrise!
“My mother has been diagnosed with the Parkinson’s disease. It was a huge shock for me. I can’t imagine my life without her active involvement. So, I wanted to design something for her while she’s still here,” Dayal, who has a label called Anupamaa, told reporters after her show at the ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2016 on Friday at the NSIC Ground here.
Her line mostly comprised silk and a bit of cotton. The designer, who loves to use floral prints, went ahead with lots of stripes this year.
She also interestingly combined paper and other recycled products-based jewellery with clothes.
“I have used jewellery on the dress. It’s my way of layering. I like jewellery. It enhances women’s beauty and is not necessarily a status symbol,” she said.
Apart from jewellery on clothes, the bright coloured tassel earrings gelled with the Bohemian style outfits.
